They had my boat for 5 weeks. Dropped it off and told them it would not idle without dying and it was cutting out and losing top end speed. Would only go about half throttle. Also needed the basic maintenance - oil change etc.

Knowledgeable personnel & quality work.

So - I drag it all the way to my Mercury dealer in Houston. I tell him the whole story. He laughed. Said he can almost tell me from my description that it is NOT the carbs. 2 weeks later, he said come get it. It is fixed. The choke was stuck in the on position. So it was always choking the motor and flooding it with gas. And there was a piece of the impeller from the water pump that was stuck in the thermostat and was keeping it open all the time. He said he just slightly adjusted the carbs, but did not even take them a apart. Said Gas looked good and it was running perfect.

Great people and good at what they do.

Took it to the lake and it ran like a top. So I will not be using Carlson's again. I will make the 3 hour trip to a real mechanic to get things worked on. So much easier and they communicated with me every step of the way. Carlson's never communicated.

After 5 weeks, they called and said it was ready. Said problem was the voltage regulator.

Pulled it to the lake house and took it for a test ride. Same problem. Would not idle without throttling up and would only go about half speed. Took it back the next morning and took them for a ride in the boat. He obviously did not test it to see if it was fixed. Left it with them another 2 weeks. They called me and said it was the carbs and it needed all new carb kits. Then informed me that they do not work on the Carbs on these early 4 strokes. They are too hard to get in tune. Said he replaced fuel lines and gas was probably bad from setting. Said to come get it and take it somewhere else. Told them it would have been nice to know they did not work on these before they had my boat for 7 weeks.

These guys may be ok for simple stuff. Oil changes, spark plugs, etc. If major motor issues, they don't have a clue and refuse to work on some Mercury products. Even if they sold the motor new.
